To The Aotg.com Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.

Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.

We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.

Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.

Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

AE for Editors: Prolost Speedramp

Speed ramps used to be rare, and before that, nonexistent. Slow motion has long been a part of cinema—it mirrors the psychology of how we recollect powerful or traumatic moments—but the ability to swoop gracefully in and out of slow mo belongs to the era of Phantom cameras and now, camera phones that can record 250fps The post AE for Editors: Prolost Speedramp appeared first on ProVideo Coalition.

Michael Giacchino Will Compose Doctor Strange Musi

As much as I enjoyed Captain America: Civil War, there is one area where it falls flat on its face – the musical score is wholly unremarkable. Heck, just about every single movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is guilty of this exact same sin. Here are dynamic characters, colorful heroes who demand to be associated with instantly recognizable melodies, and their adventures are scored with the musical equivalent of vanilla pudding. No single MCU movie features identifiable music and that’s ...

How Movie SFX are Made

If you never stop to think where any given sound comes from in a movie, then the crew member known as the Foley artist has done a good job. You probably don’t even realize just how many sound effects in movies are created in a sound studio. Sometimes it’s a sound you’ve never heard before, like a TIE Fighter while other times it’s just the sound of a couple rolling through the leaves.

Francis Ford Coppola's The Godfather is a film which we love and revere for various reasons. Be it Coppola's assured direction, the gripping screenplay which does a fantastic adaptation of Mario Puzo's novel, Marlon Brando and Al Pacino's performances, Gordon Willis' cinematography or Walter Murch's editing, the film is an accomplishment on various levels and there's a lot filmmakers can learn from it.
