Adorama Expert Mason Resnick’s First Look at the Leica X-U
Adorama Learning Expert Mason Resnick says of the Leica X-U: “The world of underwater cameras just got its Audi: Leica today announced the Leica X-U Typ 113, the world’s first underwater Leica camera. A compact, German-made digital camera, the X-U was made in collaboration with Audi’s design team. Inside there’s a 16.2MP APS-C CMOS sensor, while the Summilux 23mm f/1.7 ASPH lens is water-sealed, and provides the equivalent point of view of a 35mm lens on a 35mm sensor camera.”

Waterproof for Underwater Photography
Waterproof up to depths of 15 meters (or 49 feet) for up to 60 minutes, the Leica X-U is the first underwater camera from Leica. The fast prime lens with an underwater protection filter delivers pin-sharp pictures with perfect resolution, capturing the finest details of captivating underwater landscapes.

Made in Germany with Partner AUDI Design
Leica cameras are known for their stylish designs, and the Leica X-U is no exception, and was developed in cooperation with partner AUDI Design. Combining robust and extremely high quality materials with the classic look of Leica X cameras, this camera embodies pure style. Dials in anodized aluminum and the integrated flash above the lens clearly illustrate flawless attention to detail.

APS-C CMOS Sensor
The compact and lightweight Leica X-U packs a powerful punch, featuring an impressively large image sensor with a high resolution of more than 16 megapixels. The APS-C format CMOS sensor guarantees extraordinary brilliance, natural color rendition, and exceptional resolution of the finest details, even in low light.

Shockproof and dust-sealed
With the Leica X-U, photographers have the freedom to photograph in even the toughest conditions. The shockproof and dust-sealed camera defies all the elements, taking falls from 4-5 feet in stride.

Rugged Body for the Ultimate Protection
The Leica X-U is the ideal camera for any outdoor adventurer, with TPE armoring for a secure and comfortable grip, plus its specially toughened protective cover for the LCD screen, and top and bottom plates made from premium aluminum. The failsafe double locking system for the camera’s battery compartment and memory slot provide extra confidence for action-packed shooting.

Controls and Handling – Special Focus on the Essentials
Designed for an intuitive shooting experience, the easy-to-use dials on the Leica X-U allow photographers to set the shutter speed and aperture in seconds. And, thanks to a wide range of practical automatic functions and a high-resolution, 3-inch monitor screen, the settings needed to capture the decisive moment are found in an instant, even in unfavorable light.

The Extremely Fast 23mm Prime Lens
The Leica Summilux 23mm f/1.7 ASPH. lens has an angle of view equivalent to a 35mm lens in 35mm format, with an impressive and extremely fast initial aperture of f/1.7 and beautiful bokeh. Photographers can capture pin-sharp exposures from a mere distance of just 20cm, and outstanding resistance to stray light and flare make the Summilux lens the perfect choice for any lighting scenario. And photographers can even take it below sea level, as the lens features an underwater protection filter.

Full HD Video
The full HD video function of the Leica X-U makes it easy to capture cinema-quality footage. The camera records video in a choice of 1920x1080 or 1280x720 pixel resolution at 30 full frames per second in MP4 video format.
