It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

If you need proof, consider this: The budgets behind these hits range from small to one of the most expensive in television history — but each is world-class in execution, regardless of the amount of money spent. Here are some of the best VFX breakdowns from some of today’s biggest hits.

Every year SIGGRAPH brings us the very latest in computer technology. While the conference has certainly evolved over time, SIGGRAPH still remains one of the largest annual gatherings of computer nerds, from VFX artists to computer scientists. This year over 14,000 people attended the conference, and we were there to see all the latest breakthroughs in motion graphics, VFX, and related technology. While it’s hard to say that anything was unimpressive, below is a list of our eight favorite thin...

etting paid. We all like getting paid, right? As much as this is a good thing about making videos, this is the biggest area many freelancers fail in. We love doing the creative work, but getting those dollars to actually exchange hands? Sometimes it seems impossible.

If you're a regular reader of our To 3D or Not To 3D reviews, then you're probably aware that most movies utilizing the third dimension really only utilize half of the effect. For some reason, filmmakers have become convinced that depth is the best aspect of the technology, leaving audiences without the thrill of seeing things come flying off the screen and into the theater. The good news is that the new Ghostbusters movie is ready to save all of us from boring 3D, and it's something of which di...
