To The Aotg.com Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.

Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.

We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.

Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.

Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

Saturday, June 13th, 9:00 AM. The Manhattan Edit Workshop auditorium in New York was filled with people of all ages who had come to learn more about film editing. Many were students, laptops in hand. The woman sitting next to me had a flyer about a documentary she was working on; the man sitting on the other side showed us the projects he was doing.

https://www.aotg.com/assistant-editing-lessons-from-the-trenches/

The content is five assistant editing lessons I learned over the years that can benefit those in documentary post-production. It is a best practices document for post-production workflow. The piece is entitled Assistant Editing: 5 Lessons from the (FRONTLINE) Trenches and it includes a 500 word written article and a 12 page PDF that visually expands the five main lessons. The PDF is a visual representation made up of individual image files that can be separated for inclusion within web text.

Match Cuts

June 24, 2015, 11:44 PM

http://sevencamels.blogspot.nl/2015/06/match-cuts....

A match cut is when you cut from one scene to another, but the place where you want the viewer's eye to focus on is in the same spot in each composition. Before and after the cut, the viewer is focusing on the same part of the frame. It makes it easier for the viewer to track what's going on, and minimizes the amount of effort the viewer needs to expend in searching around for what's important every time you cut.

EDITING GENDER

Understanding the Logic of Yes and No?

Do you like chocolate? Yes. Will you ever give up eating it? No. It's relatively easy to understand the difference between 'yes' and 'no'. However, according to new research, understanding the behaviour and interpretation of the words 'yes' and 'no' is surprisingly much more difficult to pin down.

Review: FCPX 10.2

I think most people in our industry would recognise this sentiment, though Mr. Catmull’s book expresses and explains the processes more clearly and more insightfully than any other I’ve read. Most creative processes require some aspect of ‘protecting the new’, and software development is no different. Which brings us to Apple’s Final Cut Pro X.

Logic Pro X Review

Prior to NAB (and just in time for Musikmesse - timing again?), Apple also updated their audio editing and composition software, Logic Pro X. Logic makes a fantastic addition to FCP X, for those who need to do more audio manipulation than FCP X’s tools allow – which is probably nearly everyone.
