It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

In Pixar’s upcoming Soul, directed by Pete Docter, one of the challenges the animation studio faced was depicting its main character Joe (Jamie Foxx) playing the piano, believably. That is, animating his fingers to hit the correct keys for the music he was playing.

Working with director Chris Columbus, Weta Digital led an extensive effort to bring the world of Netflix’s The Christmas Chronicles 2 to life. The film tells the story of how once-elf-now-human character Belsnickel (Julian Dennison) threatens to cancel Christmas, and how Santa Claus (Kurt Russell) and Mrs. Claus (Goldie Hawn) and their helpful elves and new-found human friends look to save the day.

For Director David Fincher's latest film Mank — now available on Netflix — he's teamed up once again with his long-time collaborator, supervising sound editor Ren Klyce. Here, Klyce shares details on creating an 'old Hollywood' feel by working in mono, adding patina layers of analog equipment hiss and natural 'theater' reverb, and creating a special filter modeled after the original Citizen Kane.

A new tool now available production and asset management is Tangent Labs’ LoUPE. It’s cloud-based and recently went live in the AWS Marketplace. LoUPE effectively offers an interface to aid in 3D content creation, and it came directly out of a real production—Tangent Animation’s animated Netflix film, Next Gen.

The high-seas World War II drama “Greyhound” clocks in with a svelte running time of 91 minutes, including end credits. But an extremely tightly wound and unrelenting 91 minutes it is. Starring and written by Tom Hanks, the plot is densely concentrated on about five days in February 1942, as Hanks’ Commander Krause is leading a convoy of destroyers through the so-called Black Pit.
