It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

Several months ago, I watched a fun-filled video on Cracked.com that introduced the idea (at least to me) that all of the Pixar movies actually exist within the same universe. Since then, I’ve obsessed over this concept, working to complete what I call “The Pixar Theory,” a working narrative that ties all of the Pixar movies into one cohesive timeline with a main theme.

Kaikai Kiki Co. and Blum & Poe have announced that world-renowned visual artist Takashi Murakami's debut film Jellyfish Eyes will tour nationwide, screening at cultural institutions in eight US cities. Jellyfish Eyes transforms the classic cinematic trope of the new kid on the block into a genre-defying adventure set in a post-Fukushima world.

In the past, this column has focused primarily on looking at the positive side of Pixar’s shorts, features, and filmmakers, which hasn’t been terribly difficult; when compared with its competition, Pixar’s films are frequently far and away the best examples of mainstream animation of the modern age, no matter the format.

Adam Reed’s spy series Archer underwent a bit of a change this season, with the animated heroes forced by the FBI to jettison their spy business in exchange for lives of crime and cocaine-selling. And country western music production. As you can imagine, they’ve approached the crime business with the same bravado and dysfunction that they used to approach the spy business. Luckily, there’re still the same people keeping things running smoothly behind-the-scenes.

Three years ago I wrote about an anti-poaching agreement revealed in a Federal investigation between Pixar and ILM. The case later expanded to reveal that not only were big high-tech companies like Google and Apple were involved, but these anti-poaching agreements were designed by CEOs like Steve Jobs, Eric Schmidt, and Meg Whitman.

With the snow and ice finally melting – or, in some places, hopefully soon to the on the brink of melting – marketing campaigns are heating up for some of the biggest films of the year. This spring offers sequels of both the highly anticipated and highly questionable varieties, as well as some promising re-imaginings of beloved characters. Which will measure up? Which will get us to plunk down our hard-earned cash for a ten dollar ticket and a six dollar bucket of popcorn? And which companie...

This is the umpty-umpth The Art of … coffee-table art book about the making of a modern animated cinematic feature masterpiece. How many have there been? In 2013 alone, I’ve reviewed five; in 2012, at least a half-dozen. And this doesn’t count all of the wonderful animated theatrical features for which there have not been art books, like Despicable Me 2 and Free Birds in 2013.
