It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

I decided at age 19 that I would be a Director of Photography. Having been raised by very cool and artistic parents, I was surrounded by art, film, music, advertising, theater, books and understood each as a possible career. However, it wasn’t until I took Amos Vogel’s film theory class at the University of Pennsylvania and dissected “Taxi Driver” to the minutest detail that I realized it was cinematography specifically that enchanted me.

How to… Budget your time, Listen and Learn, Concentrate and Shift your Focus. In the 25 years I’ve been regularly attending NAB, I’ve learned a few tricks. For instance, when I was starting out, trade shows were about seeing all the shiny things on display, because for decades the big trade show was the only Read More

You’d think the man who’d just won the Oscar for co-editing Gravity – which won seven Oscars, six Baftas and seven Critics’ Choice Awards – would be entitled to sit back and bask in the glory for a bit.

The NFL predicted that Super Bowl XVLIII would be a showcase for the best offensive and the best defensive players of the league. Regrettably, they didn’t tell us they would both come from the same team.

A respected friend, and established director, once said to me, “I believe in the power of kindness. Pay it forward – keep the cycle going.” This is the mantra that my wife, Heidi, and I follow when giving back to the consumer and business communities.

Post production is one of the most challenging facets of the entertainment industry, but it’s also one of the most rewarding. Most people don’t move to Hollywood with stars in their eyes hoping to be a Foley Mixer or a Post Supervisor, but many a passionate film grad find their sweet spot far away from the bright lights of the set. If you, like many, are considering a career in post production here are a few red flags that should make you think twice.

Some Oscar categories don't get much respect. Cinematography and sound editing are vital to any film, but many critics say the TV show could do without the presentation of these awards and their behind-the-scenes brethren.
