It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

Things have been heating up since my last blog post. The exhibition doors have been thrown wide open and hungry students are claiming free Pixar teapots, cloth bags, miniature Snickers bars and tissues from the booths. There is definitely a bigger buzz today. My intention was to go to the VR Village talk but it was jammed packed and I couldn’t get in. Nevertheless I had a fantastic day with some very interesting moments.

After a fantastic Siggraph 2014 in Vancouver, I was looking forward to seeing what Los Angeles could deliver. The last time I was here for Siggraph was in 2008 and I remember it well because Softimage held a legendary party involving Vanilla Ice and Ron Jeremy.

The visual effects team on Joshua Trank's Fantastic Four re-boot had several challenges - crafting views of inter-dimensional travel, making the exotic environments of an undiscovered planet and, of course, rendering the powers of the film’s main characters - The Thing, Human Torch, Mr. Fantastic, The Invisible Woman and Dr. Doom. Those powers, famous in the Marvel universe, would be brought to life under the overall guidance of visual effects supervisor James E. Price, who led principal vendo...

Knowing what you can and can't do realistically is something that not all directors are able to grasp, and Blomkamp utilizes his VFX experience exceptionally well (and even did a quick 3D model of the Moose robot). The character of Chappie is played by Sharlto Copley, and not only did he do the voice acting, but he was on set every day physically playing the character, which meant he had to be painted out of every frame and replaced by the 3D model — which took quite a bit of effort considerin...

Given its home on The CW, who expected The Flash to become the most satisfying, and in some ways the weirdest superhero show on television? And yet here we are, one season into the show with fans eagerly awaiting the second. (The Flash season 2 debuts on October 6.)
