To The Aotg.com Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.

Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.

We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.

Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.

Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

Designing Signature Sounds

Not all sounds are created equally. There are sounds that demand just that extra attention. Kate Finan, from Boom Box Post, calls them “signature sounds”. They’re the sounds that give a movie or game character. Sounds that we can recall even when we are doing the dishes or having a conversation. These sounds bring characters […]

Learn VEGAS Pro 16 – HDR Color Management

https://www.provideocoalition.com/learn-vegas-pro-...

HDR is a topic we’ve covered in great detail on PVC, and the appeal of the format can be simplified by saying that if 4K is about more pixels, HDR is about better pixels, and that’s a difference audiences have come to recognize. It’s also the reason that VEGAS Pro 16 now offers an end-to-end workflow for High Dynamic Range color. VEGAS Pro users can now deliver HDR content with stunning color and detail along with important metadata. The software is also compatible with professional HDR-ca...

Using Convolution Reverb For Designing Lo-Fi Sound

http://designingsound.org/2018/10/11/using-convolu...

When I think lo-fi, I think lo-fi sci-fi. I think of games like Alien Isolation, Bioshock, SOMA. Films like Alien and Blade Runner. I think of gritty, chunky sounds. Interfaces or devices that click and clatter and that have been through the ringer more than once. I think what makes lo-fi sci-fi so great […]

Voice User Interfaces in Film and Reality

October 9, 2018, 09:15 AM

http://designingsound.org/2018/10/09/voice-user-in...

When thinking of voice user interfaces as pure technology, it may not sound appealing to some of us who are in this business for the art. Even when thinking of the technology behind the art, it is comprehensive why some people would shy away from it. What’s compelling about VUIs, however, is not necessarily the […]

Email from Film Editing Pro – Don’t make these

http://wordpress.quintessentialstudios.net/?p=927

I received this email from Film Editing Pro about a month ago, and have received permission to share it with you. As you may or may not know, I spent the summer interning for one of the top trailer companies out there. I spent my time earning how to do assistant editor duties. Since that [...]

LoFi Sounds in a High Tech World.

October 4, 2018, 09:05 AM

http://designingsound.org/2018/10/04/lofi-sounds-i...

The topic for the month is LoFi and I’m just having my morning coffee. Before taking this further, it would probably be worthwhile to define LoFi. HiFi is high fidelity and LoFi is low fidelity. A quick google search for the definition of fidelity, and I came up with “the degree of exactness with […]

By Randi Altman The legend of Bigfoot: a giant, hairy two-legged creature roaming the forests and giving humans just enough of a glimpse to freak them out. Sightings have been happening for centuries with no sign of slowing down — seriously, Google it. But what if that story was turned around, Continue reading → October 3, 2018 The post Imageworks provides big effects, animation for Warner’s Smallfoot appeared first on Randi Altman's postPerspective.
