It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

There hasn’t been any shortage of articles, coverage, and content of the editing and post-production of Mission Impossible: Fallout with its editor Eddie Hamilton. At the top of that coverage would be Steve Hullfish’s fabulous ART OF THE CUT with Eddie where the detail is deep. And as a fun addendum to that AOTC Steve broke down Eddie’s MI:Fallout timeline in another post after a screengrab of that timeline made its way around the internet. So why do we need yet another post on Eddie and M...

LA-based post house Therapy Studios has added editor Antonio Gómez-Pan to its team. Born in Madrid, and currently splitting his time between his hometown Barcelona and Los Angeles, Gómez-Pan earned a Bachelor of Arts in film editing at cinema school ESCAC. He says his journey to editing was “sort of a Darwinian process,” after he burnt his hands on some fresnel lights and “discovered the beauty of film editing.” While still in school, Continue reading → September 25, 2018 The ...

Ah EQ. The first type of DSP you learned how to use in school to make your sounds clean, bright, warm, etc. EQ is so much more interesting and powerful than just changing tonal balance though and I want to really focus on some of the crazy sound design we can do with an EQ, […]

Lavalier microphones are useful in a lot of situations when you’re in the field. Their small size makes it easy to fit them into tight spaces to record perspectives that you wouldn’t normally be able to listen to. You can get very close to small objects or even insects or birds and given that […]

More likely than not, an Art of the Cut interview with Brent White, ACE, would probably be about editing comedy. His previous work includes, Ghostbusters, Spy, Anchorman (1 and 2), Step Brothers, Knocked Up, Talladega Nights and The 40 Year old Virgin, and before that, Desperate Housewives and Freaks and Geeks. It was his time at Freaks and Geeks that connected him with the cadre of the best and brightest directors in comedy.
