To The Aotg.com Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.

Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.

We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.

Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.

Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

Picture Your Book | Editing Book Trailers

Books, like movies, need trailers too. Who knew? Writer, editor, and entrepreneur Gail Chandler knew. She's the whiz behind Picture Your Book, a site which "create(s) enjoyable, effective, reasonably priced trailers that help authors promote their books." The idea is to promote already written books with video trailers to grow aweness of the book's content, and create some presence online.  If you've never seen a book trailer (which I hadn't) I recommend watching this one for a bo...

XML, AAF, EDL, WTF?

Taking your project from the edit suite to the final product. By The Unknown Artist I’ve been asked a few times recently to explain the what, how and why of XML, AAF and EDLs. They’re an essential part of any turnover, and each post house will request a different set of one or more of these (often along with your project or bin). I, the Unknown Artist, am here to try and demystify this aspect of turnovers, and hopefully make turnover specs seem less weirdly demanding. What are they? ...

AE + C4D: Some Minor Assembly Required

We’re fans of the Live 3D Pipeline workflow between After Effects CC and CINEMA 4D Lite. And Adobe has automated a large portion of the process to get the two to work together: In After Effects, create a New > Layer > MAXON CINEMA 4D File, and not only is a layer created in AE with the CINEWARE plug-in applied (where all the magic happens), C4D Lite is also opened with a new project linked to that particular instance of the plug-in for live rendering. However: At least as of AE CC 2014.2, ...
