To The Aotg.com Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.

Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.

We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.

Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.

Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

One of the most popular questions I get asked is: “I’m using Final Cut Pro 7. Should I buy Adobe Premiere Pro or Apple Final Cut Pro X?” Let me start by saying both applications are used by professionals around the world every day.

Memories of Softimage

With the recent announcement of the EOL for Softimage XSI, it brought back memories from many years ago, when I was initially learning 3d Animation. Back in the late 90's, while I was working in advertising, producing TVCs, I was getting extremely interested in learning how to create the magic of CGI I had seen in Jurassic Park several years earlier. After convincing our production company we needed to get on the bandwagon, we eventually came back to the office with a beautiful Xmas present...

Apple Pro Apps Revenue: 2005-2014

July 28, 2014, 09:34 AM

http://alex4d.com/notes/item/pro-apps-2005-2014

For many years most users of Apple's 'Pro Apps' assumed that they were a loss leader for high-end Macintoshes. Very light copy protection meant that many students pirated the software, but that wasn't a problem for Apple. 99.9% of Final Cut Pro users needed a Mac to run the software. These days Final Cut Pro X and Logic Pro X users may love their software, but many are worried that Apple might discontinue them at any moment. Pro Apps are such a small contributor to Apple's bottom line,...

This article looks at five budget wired lavalier microphone options for production sound. Let me state up front – audio is a subjective thing, and I’m far from being an audio expert. What sounds good to me might not sound good to you.

Branded Content: When Corporations Become Creators

The ongoing convergence of the film and TV industries was a hot topic at April’s MipTV, particularly following Miramax’s announcement that they are to offer their theatrical back catalogue for TV adaptations. Yet the bigger blurring of boundaries surely comes in the advertising sector, as so-called ‘branded content’ begins to make its mark. Netribution’s Nic Wistreich takes a closer look.

How ScreenLight Saved a CEO’s Presentation and M

July 28, 2014, 09:31 AM

http://www.screenlight.tv/blog/2014/07/23/how-scre...

I’ve been using ScreenLight as my client review service for the past three years. It’s gotten me out of countless jams over the years but nothing like what happened the other weekend. The CEO of the company I work for had a last minute presentation (of course!) on the Friday I was headed out of town for a wedding (of course!). He needed to get access to a video library from another company for his presentation. Usually I would have driven to their office 20 minutes from where we’re ...
