It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

Many readers are familiar with the original Tascam DR–60D recorder, which was less capable with a higher price tag than the new DR–60DmkII. Woody Woodhall of ProVideo Coalition first announced the improved DR–60DmkII in October 2014, which fortunately offers up to 64dB of gain on its microphone preamps. I have already made several recordings with it, from both dynamic and condenser mics, and have plenty to report. Ahead you’ll see what I like, and what I would improve.

How to fix the “POP” during recording or in post. Before we can fix the POP, we need to understand where it came from. To do that, let’s quickly look at microphone theory. To oversimplify, sound waves hit a microphone and cause slight physical movement of the diaphragm, which is translated to electricity via an […]

The LEAF, short for Large European Acoustic Facility, will never host the world's biggest music show and for good reason. This large facility, built in the name of science, produces only noise. And not just noise, mind you, but noise that could potentially blow your head off from your ears if you happened to still be inside the chamber when it blasts spectral noise, believed to be the loudest in the world. Luckily, no one has been reported to have suffered that fate yet.

2014 is a great year to be a DAW owner. New plug-ins of all sorts keep coming fast and furious. Some are hardware emulations, some are hybrids using existing technology to enhance older paradigms, while some are completely new and unique. And the prices are lower than ever.
