It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

Within weeks of third-party Final Cut Pro X developer Tim Dashwood joining the ProApps team, Apple applied for a patent that changes the way computers connect to VR and AR head-mounted devices: ‘Method and System for 360 Degree Head-Mounted Display Monitoring Between Software Program Modules Using Video or Image Texture Sharing’ (PDF version). It turns out that Tim is doing more for Apple than being part of adding VR video editing features to applications. His work is part of the way m...

Organizations of all sizes have many costs. In addition to large expenses like employee salaries and healthcare, there is still rent, technology, and utilities. Companies are prepared for these costs. They expect the hefty prices associated with heating, cooling, and lighting systems and they take precautions to guard against excessive energy expenditure. However, they may not be guarding against hidden costs that come from unexpected places. The Hidden Cost Of Typical Desktop...

Lightning strikes. The organ clangs. A long-faced, ball-capped man rises into the frame, his eyes bulging and his head trembling in fright. For the next two minutes and 20 seconds, this man’s impossibly elastic face – framed in close-ups as intimate as The Passion of Joan of Arc – will embody a spectrum of emotions: arrogance, befuddlement, trepidation, distaste, and deep, primal fear. In Sunset Boulevard, the faded silent queen Norma Desmond says, “We didn’t need dialogue – we h...

If you work in Visual Effects in the UK (and especially at DNeg, ILM, MPC and Framestore), it's likely you saw green people on the way in to work today. You're not just seeing things from working or playing too much, they really were there! Their mission was to pass out flyers and raise awareness for a new union organizing effort called VFX Assemble!
