To The Aotg.com Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.

Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.

We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.

Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.

Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

In the below video, Justin Brown of Primal Video lists his favorite things about both Adobe Premiere Pro and Apple Final Cut Pro X to help you figure out which NLE is right for you. As 4K Shooters' Vlady Radev notes, "One of the biggest strengths of Final Cut X is the way it handles 4K video files. You can seamlessly edit and play back 4K files in their native resolution on a wide range of the latest MacBook Pros, mainly due to the background rendering the NLE offers."

Monsters. Designing them has always been quite a challenge, sound-wise, as the good balance between a terrifying and intelligible voice is sometimes hard to reach. Fortunately, thanks to recent pieces of software such as the incredible Dehumaniser, voice designers are now able to add more flexibility to their toolbelt during those kind of tasks, allowing them […]

you’ve seen Jaume Collet-Serra’s The Shallows, then you know that for most of the movie it’s just Blake Lively and the shark, a massive Carcharodon carcharias, the dreaded great white. While the film’s plot isn’t much different from every other shark movie in existence — person goes in the water, shark’s in the water, person for some reason can’t stop going in/can’t get out of the water, nature runs its course — The Shallows should get some much-deserved credit for it...

The crowd-pleasing opening of Damien Chazelle's La La Land — all that freeway traffic giving way to a musical number before frustrated drivers Mia (Emma Stone) and Sebastian (Ryan Gosling) are even introduced — wasn’t inevitable. The originally scripted opening was very different, and at one point in postproduction, the number was cut out of the movie, reveals the film’s editor, Tom Cross, who won an Oscar for Chazelle’s 2014 feature Whiplash.
