It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

Shooting in ProRes or DNxHD has several benefits if you’re working with Final Cut Pro X or Avid Media Composer. Of course you can always encode or transcode from a different codec to either of these in post-production, but that costs time — which may be valuable.

Check it out. When I’ve had the opportunity to work with less experienced After Effects artists, and even some experienced ones who should know better, I see people make fundamental mistakes with the built-in Tracker. Not only are these easily avoided once you know what to do (and what not to do) they will instantly The post Free After Effects video tutorial: Effectively track motion appeared first on ProVideo Coalition.

Although Adobe moved to a subscription model of its programs, one of them is free, or at least it was, last time I looked: Adobe Bridge CC, which can be the heart of your digital asset management. Give it a try. Launched in April 2005, 11 years ago, Adobe Bridge appeared associated with Adobe Creative The post Adobe Bridge CC: your “free” DAM appeared first on ProVideo Coalition.

By Brady Betzel Sometimes in the edit bay, I find myself feeling sluggish because I haven’t moved from my chair in four or eight or more. Usually, I can fix this by working out for a half hour before I leave for work, and I try to get in some kettlebell swings and battle rope maneuvers along with bodyweight stuff like push-ups and pull-ups. In an earlier post I shared a video about a PremierePro CC to Davinci Resolve workflow; a workflow I adopted for my latest short film project Final Hit. The video gives an overview about how to use H.264 proxies to edit with inside of Premiere, then linking those proxies back to the original CinemaDNG files for color correction and grading inside of Resolve.

Everything seems to be moving online to the cloud and pretty soon, we’ll all just have terminals that can log into the internet to collaborate on all our projects. And that’s cool because we can then always have an updated editor like Forscene, which recent won a pair of awards. With everyone going mobile, Forscene may be the future of NLEs.
