It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

A popular effect is to place video inside of text or a shape, and place that on top of a background video. Understanding how to stack clips in Final Cut Pro X, how to group them, and how to apply Blend Modes can help you achieve this effects in really interesting ways. I’ll even show you to put one video inside text, that inside a shape, another video as the shape’s background, and all of that on top of another video full frame background. Relax, it is a lot easier than it sounds.

Mastroka (MKV) is an open-standard multimedia format that isn’t widely supported by software-based media players. For instance, VLC can play MKVs, but household names like iTunes can’t.

The premise for the Cutting Edge Tour headed up by Adam Epstein, five year veteran video editor and post production guru for Saturday Night Live, was a tricky one. I know because I spent a few days bouncing ideas around with him and looking at how to structure the thing. This review will set out specifically what you will (and won’t) find in the workshop.

Many tv or video editors view union jobs like unicorns. You hear they exist, and that they’re amazing… but good luck ever catching sight of one. Since coming to Los Angeles, I’ve scratched my head many times about the whole thing. I myself joined The Union, left for the bulk of my career, and recently […]

There's an old Yorkshire saying: "If tha ever does owt for nowt, do it for thi sen". For those who don't speak fluent Tyke, it translates like this: "If you ever do something for nothing, do it for yourself". These are words that all creatives should have tattooed on their drawing arm.
