To The Aotg.com Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.

Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.

We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.

Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.

Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

We were not really interested in the new iPad Air or paying with a thumbprint, but Apple's presentation brought a stunning new 5K screened iMac, an updated Mac mini and the release of the new OS Yosemite.

For ages, we've been predicting a 4K Mac, but we were wrong! It's 5K! For pretty much what you'd have expected a 5K computer monitor to cost, Apple's thrown in a very capable computer. It's reduced the price of Mac Minis as well. It's never been cheaper to do serious stuff on a Mac. Oh, there are some new iPads as well. K. Red Giant has created one of the simplest and seemingly fool-proof tools with Offload, which can not only back up footage in multiple places at once, but also provides checksum verification to ensure that the information copied matches what was on the card. While tools like ShotPut Pro have been pretty standard for a number of years, Offload at $50 for the full version is coming in at about half the price of ShotPut (though if you're doing this work professionally they are both very inexpensive ...

As iMovie for OS X Mavericks is a full version of Final Cut Pro X with a consumer UI, the new version of iMovie for OS X Yosemite is relevant to those waiting for the next version of Final Cut. At the very least, iMovie for for OS X Yosemite has a new user interface. The old UI: The new UI: The old adjust controls: The new adjust controls: Once iMovie for Yosemite is available to download, I'll take a closer look.
