It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

About a month ago we talked about fishing line and what kinds of items you'll want to keep on hand when using it on set for different special effects. Today, we dig into how to use those items to create those effects. In this video from Jay P. Morgan of The Slanted Lens, he covers how to hang, anchor, and choose fishing line for your awesome in-camera levitation effects, as well as a few tricks on how to make the process a whole lot easier.

Plug-ins are a staple of life for After Effects users. For me, at least, I’m always super excited when a new effect (or bundle of effects) is/are released from a company, as it’s always cool to see what boundary these companies are trying to push next. With that being said, there is an exciting new trend, and new boundary being pushed, and those boundaries are from within the application itself, and I’m talking about After Effects scripts.

Did you know that SIGGRAPH is where Pixar premiered their first short film? Back in 1984, the release of Andre and Wally B astounded the crowd with computer graphics, lighting rigs and the use of digital squash and stretch — all set forth by director Alvy Ray Smith, John Lasseter (animator) and Bill Reeves (technical lead), to name a few. With the annual SIGGRAPH conference set as the mecca of everything groundbreaking in the computer graphics and interactive techniques world, it's no wonder t...

Congratulations to the winners! We were inspired by all of the cuts, and it’s our pleasure to present the six music videos of Imagine Dragons’ “Believer” that wowed us most. It’s not often that a product can stay relevant enough to stand the march of time, but Premiere Pro has – 25 years and still going strong. To empower and inspire the global community that has supported us for the past quarter-century, Adobe set out to offer both professional and aspiring creatives a unique o...
