It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

Just as all the craziness is dying down, the complete Walter Murch Boston Supermeet video has been posted. Hopefully, people will take the time to watch it and decide for themselves what Walter Murch had to say about a variety of topics, ranging from the evolution of film, his Final Cut and FileMaker Pro workflow, and of course, the divisive Final Cut Pro X topic.

On October 27 I leave (with my trusty companion and webmeister who made almost all the arrangements), on our first trip to India. But have no worries! I've blogged ahead on some interesting subjects and have scheduled them to be posted while I’m away. As part of preparing for this three week adventure, I've been...

No, I haven't forgotten how to use IMDb. Yes, I know Oren Peli edited Paranormal Activity and Gregory Plotkin edited the second and third films. That's not what I'm talking about. I'm talking about who in the fictional world of Paranormal Activity is editing these movies, particularly Paranormal Activity 2 which I just watched for this first time last weekend.

It's been a little while since the New York Film Festival wrapped (10/16/11 to be exact) but I'm still going to add a little something about the Views from the Avant-Garde. My Part II, even if a bit late in coming. As I mentioned in Part I, the lineup I attended was Cabinet of Curiosities, [...]

It was never easy being a Pearl Jam fan. The explosion of hype and overexposure that came with Ten and Vs. fueled an instant mainstream backlash by the cool indie kids. If you were going to listen to grunge, Nirvana was the band you were supposed to like. The experimental, less radio-friendly Vitalogy and No Code—as well as the annoying rise of Eddie Vedder sound-alikes—slashed the fan base even further. In terms of popularity then, they occupy a strange, contradictory place in music...
