It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell
Aotg.com Founder

Monday brings more scene analysis! We watch three scenes: one from Fearless, one from Punch Drunk Love, and one from Mulholland Drive; all of them are specifically chosen not just for picture, but also for sound. The scene from Punch Drunk Love is one I remember especially well. Adam Sandler's character discovers a lone harmonium in the street. It sits in near silence.

Here's a wonderful seaside stop-motion video made using three smartphones to make the overhead shots. The behind-the-scenes story includes some words from the editor and illuminates the extensive pre-planning and choreographing of effort of the producers and crew who worked non-stop through the night to create this short.

By now, you all know that Steve Jobs passed away yesterday. Many words have been and will be written about him, and how much his vision and passion changed our lives. He was determined to see the future and make it real, and he did that many times over in his short career. Apple's think...

Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else's life. Don't be trapped by dogma – which is living with the results of other people's thinking. Don’t let the noise of other's opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.

We all knew this day was coming (see my recent article written when he stepped down as CEO of Apple), but it's still no less sad. Today, Steve Jobs passed away. Say what you want about Apple, but Steve Jobs was a legend in the area of personal technology. Under his leadership, Apple led the world through a unique combination of design, vertical integration, simplicity, and pure passion.

Every video project should be split into progress payments. By splitting the financial payments across progress you ensure protection for your financial security. Typically, I recommend the use up to five, equal payments. If project’s have extremely short timelines or do not involve a full-service production (such as shooting only) then adjust your payment schedule.
