To The Aotg.com Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.

Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.

We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.

Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.

Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

#CreativeFriday – Unwrapping UVs on a 3D model f

I’ve spent the last few weeks learning how to unwrap UV maps for a 3D model, so that any texturing and painting rusults in Photoshop CC are more controllable. For exmple, take this primative object that I created in Cinema 4D, and objened into Photoshop as an OBJ file. Within Photoshop the standard brush tool can be used to paint directly onto the 3D geometry and project the paint marks onto the texture map. Painting on one face of this particular object will result in the paint appearin...

Adobe FrameMaker (2015 release): XML made simple

July 3, 2015, 04:49 AM

http://blogs.adobe.com/contentcorner/2015/07/03/fm...

Yes, you read the heading correctly. XML is no longer a game that only pros can play, FrameMaker (2015 release) makes it easy for even novices to get their hands dirty in XML. But, how? Before FrameMaker (2015 release), to create and maintain an XML document, you had to know the underlying technicalities of XML. You had to know the XML structure, the inheritance model, and of course the tool to create an XML document. With FrameMaker (2015 release), you no longer have to know what’s u...

It is halftime for the 2015 Oscar race, but at this point only one movie released in the first six months of this year looks to make the list of Best Picture nominees. And no, with all apologies to Vin Diesel, it is not Furious 7. So with that in mind let me tell you that right now on July 1, Disney/Pixar’s Inside Out is leading the race for the Academy Awards. ...

It’s doesn’t seem plausible that Steven Spielberg’s Jurassic Park consumed theaters over twenty years ago. Whenever we come across the film on television, it’s hard to change the channel. It just has this timeless essence to it, laced with unforgettable imagery – like when the water glass starts to ripple because of the threat of T-Rex. It’s iconic. Now, a new generation gets to experience the flesh-eating franchise with its fourth installment, Jurassic World, and the movie doesn’t...
