To The Aotg.com Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.

Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.

We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.

Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.

Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

Breaking Down the Incredible VFX for 'Chappie'

August 10, 2015, 07:35 PM

http://nofilmschool.com/2015/08/breaking-down-vfx-...

Knowing what you can and can't do realistically is something that not all directors are able to grasp, and Blomkamp utilizes his VFX experience exceptionally well (and even did a quick 3D model of the Moose robot). The character of Chappie is played by Sharlto Copley, and not only did he do the voice acting, but he was on set every day physically playing the character, which meant he had to be painted out of every frame and replaced by the 3D model — which took quite a bit of effort considerin...

favorite features in CC versions of After Effects:

August 10, 2015, 07:28 PM

http://blogs.adobe.com/aftereffects/2015/08/favori...

One important area of focus for us over the past couple of years has been improving how images are scaled in After Effects, especially since so many of our users need to be able to upscale images from SD (standard-definition) sizes to HD (high-definition) or digital cinema sizes. Beginning in After Effects CC (12.0), you can choose between bicubic and bilinear sampling for selected layers, which determines how pixels are sampled for transformations such as scaling. In After Effects CC (12.1...

Near Field Vs Far Field

August 10, 2015, 07:25 PM

Near field listening is sitting close to the speakers to minimize room sound. Far field listening is sitting farther away from your speakers which brings more of the room reflections into play. The goal is to have the definition, separation, and image of near field listening while sitting farther away.
