It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

At this point in its life, Premiere Pro has hundreds of keyboard shortcuts and adding any new ones as defaults no doubt take a lot of internal discussions. There are several essential keyboard shortcuts that are good to know about such as up/down arrows to move between edit points (while respecting track targeting), ‘D’ to select clips beneath the play head, home/end to move to the beginning and end of the timeline, etc. The one that I wanted to share today though is around increasing ...

I’m sure that I’m not alone when I say that this year I’m likely to shoot AND access more data, more quickly and from more locations – than in all the years of my career to date – combined. The resolution of my cameras (both still + video) keep increasing. HDR is becoming common on both, high frame rates are more common, and now: Virtual Reality… we’re talking 6-14 camera arrays in many projects these days (!)

I was asked to write something for "First Frame", the magazine of the Guild of British Film and Television Editors about Adobe Premiere; who are one of the Guild's sponsors. The article was aimed at editors who were not already users of the software, and it was published in the Spring 2014 issue. N.B. Pricing information was correct at time of publication, check the Adobe website for the latest pricing.

Coughs, bangs, buzz, and other imperfections can distract from an otherwise flawless performance. In this video, RX guru Mike Thornton shows you how to remove them, using an acoustic guitar track an example.

In this HD Voice tutorial for Apple Final Cut Pro X we learn how to create custom project frame sizes, so we can start outputting to a variety of platforms such as smartphones, web viewers as well as setting up a project so you can edit in anamorphic widescreen without the crop bars. We also consider the way different screen sizes can be used to creatively influence the story.
