It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

It’s been 110 years since Georges Méliès sent a spaceship slamming into the eye of the man on the moon. So how far have visual effects come since then? Working closely with the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, Don Levy takes us on a visual journey through special effects, from the fakery of early technology to the seamless marvels of modern filmmaking.

Undoubtedly this year will continue the trend of fractured market share for edit systems. If you tally up every system in general use, your professional choices include NLE systems from Adobe, Apple, Avid, Autodesk, Boris/Media 100, Dayang, Editshare/Lightworks , Grass Valley, SGO, Sony and Quantel. In most US markets, the split in market dominance boils...

Our Director of Advertsing needed a new computer. He'd been running our DIY8 machine and it was starting to get cranky on him. We decided that since he uses Adobe CS6 to create our advertisements, email blasts and update our website, that a DIY9 based build would be perfect for him.

Premiere Pro doesn’t currently support CinemaDNG RAW files, but the makers of Ginger HDR have come up with a workaround. It’s not 100% realtime performance (After Effects is particularly laggy), but it IS playback of the native files. Not a bad workaround for those that want to work directly with the native RAW files from the BlackMagic Cinema Camera. Watch below...

Firstly what they don’t tell you till you open the box is that this will self configure itself in Raid 5 but will take ten hours to do so, fortunately I am not using it with my Thunderbolt enabled MacBook Air so I switched it on pressed the orange button and it very quietly chuntered away to itself with all 12 blue LEDs flickering till the small hours of the morning.

Curated by animator and screenwriter Jack Feldstein, the film series paired New York filmmakers with poets to explore the relationship between poetry and the motion picture. I had the good fortune to be paired with the George Wallace, a prolific and talented poet whose imaginative style inspired the surreal science-fiction themes.
