It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

Today I took a site visit to the tv studio where we will be shooting a series of web-delivered shows this year. Sadly there was nothing in my home state of Connecticut available and NYC-based studios are simply too costly. So along comes the PBS station in upstate NY - a beautiful new HD studio and the price is right!

Every now and then I hit a stretch where it seems I am doing nothing but subtitles. There are many tools out there to make it easier, but there was one thing I got tired of doing manually- splitting subtitles into 2 lines. The most common subtitle format is to have 2 lines of subtitles, [...]

File this post under how in the hell did I not know MPEG Streamclip could do this! This being take the URL of a YouTube video and convert it into a usable file. That is one of those tasks that has come up time and time again and I've often struggled with how to make it happen.

Another source for those much loved light leaks. 5DLeaks are offering their pack of leaks for USD19.99 It seems a bit funny to us that people will spend a lot of money on cameras and lenses to get pin sharp results and then make the footage look like it was shot with a Super 8 camera.

When I first heard the news about Media Composer 6, I was genuinely excited. It has been a long time since an NLE has given me a reason to look forward to its release. After the release of FCP X, I realized (along with everyone else in the professional film and video world) that I would have to start working with a new system at some point. It was just a matter of time…
