It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

Okay - smoking cigarettes is still bad for you, but did you know that students can get a fully-functioning 3-year license of Autodesk Smoke for free? Most people don't believe it when we tell them, but it’s 100 percent true. All you need is your school email address to get your 3-year student license for Autodesk Smoke.

In the 2004 NFL Season, I went to work for NFL Films in Mount Laurel NJ, as an film editor on both Final Cut Pro and Avid Media Composer, where I remained until the 2008/09 season. In December 2008, prior to the stations launch, I joined MLB Network as an editor/producer.

GenArts' Sapphire Edge is not a color grading plug-in in the traditional sense. If you're looking for endless numbers of sliders, dials and switches that adjust an image using terms like lift, curves or channel mixer, then Edge is not your tool. But if you are looking for a large set of high-quality looks that can be applied with ease and quickly customized with only a minimal learning curve, then Sapphire Edge is just such a tool.

This is an unpolished effect that I'm releasing early so that the few people who need it can give me some feedback. Magic Lantern is a system for adding features to Canon DSLRs, Unified is a recent ML package enables some cameras to shoot footage that can processed to produce content with a larger exposure range – i.e. High Dynamic Range.

This came in right as we were closing the door on the FCP.co campus for the holiday break. There are some good tips in this edition of MacBreak Studio about particles.

Reporting from San Jose— The Internet has long been a great place to express yourself in words. But two of the biggest trends on the Web, cloud computing and social networks, are also making it a great place to express yourself with images — to create visual art alone or in collaboration with others, and then share what you create with as many people as you dare.
