To The Aotg.com Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.

Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.

We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.

Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.

Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

There are a ton of plugins available for Final Cut, and many of them are free. But what do you do when there isn't one that does exactly what you need it to do? You write your own, of course. Final Cut Pro, through version 7, includes a basic plugin language called FXScript. FXScript allows...

Guess Who's Back?

The backlash against Final Cut Pro X amongst the professional community is still going strong. If you haven't heard, since its release, professional editors and post-production facilities have been railing against Apple's new NLE system non-stop, charging that FCP X is more like iMovie Pro rather than an update of Final Cut Pro 7.

There is just so much I need to communicate on here about what's been up lately in my life. To say that I've been getting back into photography is an understatement. Exploring life, manifesting manifestations... The list begins there. In my professional life, I have been working full-time as a Colourist/Online Editor at Paperny Films [...]

I've run into this issue so many times, practically on a weekly basis, so once and for all, 1080i / 60i is NOT 60fps. That is 60 frames per second. Never was, never will be, it's just not going to happen. Let's take a look shall we?

Mixed Panning on Multiple Clips

September 5, 2011, 10:16 AM

All audio settings in Final Cut Pro are clip based. This is both a great strength, because working with individual clips is easy, and a serious weakness, because working with lots of individual clips is time-consuming.

Batch Renaming Clips in Final Cut Pro X

The ability to Batch Rename clips in Final Cut Pro Pro X is a fantastic means for the editor to organise their footage, not just because naming conventions like 013_0251_01 for camera originals is meaningless and useless - but also because clips which you have renamed are searchable.
