To The Aotg.com Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.

Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.

We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.

Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.

Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

Some FCPX Road Blocks and More

August 16, 2011, 03:54 PM

http://www.studiodaily.com/blog/?p=7255

We've all been following the Final Cut Pro X saga since its release back in June. And we've all read about those many big things that FCPX seems to be missing … like XML in and out, third-party hardware support and the inability to import old FCP7 projects. But one thing that I've found after using FCPX for around two months now is there are a lot of little things that I've come to enjoy as an FCP7 user that didn't make their way into FCPX.

Clearing Render Files in FCP X

While I love the fact that FCP X renders on the fly, it can mean many more unused render files in the long term. That could mean losing space at a much faster pace. Premiumbeat posted a quick how to covering two easy ways to delete those unneeded files.

I've talked about it for way too long, so here's the first installment of more to come. Please leave some feedback and let me know what you think, remembering that this is the first of a 5 part series of Color Grading tutorials (using EDIUS 6) which gets a lot more exciting once we start creating specific looks and the basics are covered.

An Encore for AVID MEDIA COMPOSER

In post-production circles many people are disappointed with the recent release of Final Cut Pro X. So back in June Avid gave an NYC presentation featuring Media Composer 5.5. It was well attended, so well attended that people had to be turned away, myself included.

How to fake multicam editing in FCPX

We know that that the lack of multicam editing in Final Cut Pro X is one of Apple's top priorities to fix in an update. But what if you have a multicam job to edit and you don't want to use FCP7?

Batch process file names with applescript

Just now I found myself with an angry Nuke install that wouldn't recognize quicktimes unless they ended with ".mov" I have a few hundred linked files at this point, and thankfully most of them weren’t in nuke yet. What did I do? Well I mentioned finder "scripting menu additions" before, but this time I opened one up and tweaked it just a tiny bit to make it much much faster for the specific job I had to do.

Donkey noise in After Effects?

August 16, 2011, 09:06 AM

http://blog.youdownwithfcp.com/2011/08/15/donkey-n...

I may be going crazy (probably in fact) but last night I was up super late rendering a bunch of things out of After Effects and for some reason they were all failing. I had 5 or 6 renders fail, and then right before bed one of them failed and it made a really loud donkey whinneying noise. Has anyone else ever heard that? Is it an easter egg, or an "undocumented feature"

What features will you miss from Final Cut Studio?

What made Final Cut Studio great was the sheer number of tools you got for the price. The demise of Final Cut Studio has left a void in the market which the closest competitor, Adobe Creative Suite, does not yet fill completely.
