To The Aotg.com Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.

Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.

We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.

Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.

Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell
Aotg.com Founder

Learn Color Grading in Final Cut Pro X

Color Grading Central has posted a series of free training videos for color grading in Final Cut Pro X. The site's founder, Denver Riddle, was inspired to create it when he realized that there wasn't a central location for colorists to talk about and learn their craft. Says Riddle, "MOST Colorists are self taught, so take advantage of whatever learning resources there are that are available and put some mileage on, in the chair and on the control surface."

Over the last couple of weeks there's been some buzz about a KickStarter campaign for an Open-Source video editor called Novacut. After reading the page and some of the associated links (see below) I was curious about the project, and managed to talk to Lead Developer & Project Visionary Jason DeRose about this interesting project. As of today, the project is more than half way to their USD25,000 goal.

Just as I was finishing up the second edition of Cut by Cut: Editing Your Film or Video to send off to my publisher, the long heralded FCP X hit the streets. Then took its almighty fall. I quickly updated several chapters in the book. Now, as the controversy around the release of FCP X...

To edit material that has been recorded with the cameras REDONE, there are several possible workflows depending on aspects such as the end product required, the time available, the machines used. I do a "summary" to highlight all of the information I've read...

Well, I find that I haven’t much to blog about lately. I use this to share with people my experiences in editing…challenges I face and tips I might have. And since FCP X came out, I have made the decision to move back to the Avid platform. The only thing is, I am employed by [...]

Love and Hate for FCPX at BOSFCPUG Meeting

http://notesonvideo.blogspot.com/2011/07/love-hate...

This past Thursday evening was the first meeting of the Boston Final Cut Pro Users Group since the release of Final Cut Pro X. With that in mind, I was dying to see what Final Cut users thought about the whole thing.

In Defense of Final Cut Pro X

Still frustrated by the introduction of Final Cut Pro X? Baffled by the trackless timeline? Flummoxed by the lack of support for XML, EDLs and VTRs (not to mention OLEDs)? Irritated by the missing pro features? Evan Schechtman feels your pain.
