It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

Apple released Final Cut Pro X this morning at 5:30 AM LA time. You can read Apple’s announcement here... In three words – speed, power, cutting-edge. The first time I saw Final Cut Pro X, back in February, this quote from the title of Stephen Ambrose’s book on the transcontinental railroad flashed into my head.

Finally it's here! The new Final Cut Pro is out and can be bought and downloaded via the Mac App Store! Just to remind you the suite is priced at only USD299.99 so a very affordable sum of money! If you are a lucky owner of a 64-bit Mac and you own a 4K camera you will be able to do some real-time 4K video editing.

I was fortunate to beta test Final Cut Pro 1 back in early 1999; my company had the second training tool for Final Cut Pro a few months later with the DV Companion; I've been writing about editing paradigms and new workflows/new professionals for some time.

When Apple teased us with a Sneak Peek we knew that there had to be more to Final Cut Pro X than they showed. There certainly is and these features are great. Here's the run down of the key new features that were not seen during the Sneak Peek, but deserve to be known.

So Motion is 49.99 and so is Compressor. With no upgrade pricing, if you previously own Final Cut Studio that means you're paying an extra 100 to upgrade this time.

This morning Apple released its long awaited, ground-up rethink of its professional editing software, Final Cut Pro. Available for 299 from the Apple Store, the new FCP is both drastically lower in price than the previous version and contains numerous improvements, including, wrote David Leitner at NAB this Spring, a "dramatically revamped interface, 64-bit processor capability, no more RAM ceiling of 4GB, and continual background rendering by means of unused CPU cycles." Leitner's takeaway...
