It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

As we sit what might be less than a week out from Final Cut Pro X's release (if the rumors hold true) there's been a new firestorm of controversy that erupted after fcp.co posted some YouTube videos from a recent LAFCPUG meeting where FCP guru/trainer made this statement about FCPX 1.0: "It will not be ready for professional use."

There are about 85 emails in my in-box this morning with links to a speech I gave at the April Final Cut Pro User Group about my reactions to Apple's presentation of Final Cut at NAB.

In a somewhat stunning announcement, FCP teacher and trainer Larry Jordan told a group of users at the LA FCP Users group meeting last night that "Final Cut Pro X 1.0 will not be ready for professional use." While that statement might be accepted in the context of a completely new application, for the huge installed base of professional users who have invested much time and money to build an FCP based infrastructure, this confirmation won't come as welcome news.

Happy Wednesday! I'm finally at a place where I don't have a big pile of tasks piled up and I can actually breathe again after a few months of solid heavy work related activities. In other words, I'm about caught up with my work.

As you remember Apple showed the updated version of FCP for the first time at the Supermeet event, which took place during the National Association of Broadcasters event in Las Vegas in April. The company also revealed there the USD299 price tag and that the suite would be released probably this month.

What? At the recent meeting of the Los Angeles Final Cut Pro User Group, FCP guru Larry said exactly that on stage. The four videos after the break are well worth a watch if you are going to be buying FCPX next week.
