It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell
Aotg.com Founder

It seems that many folks who work in this little biz we call the film and video production industry will be at NAB. And there is quite a few of those that also have a blog or website of some sort. I will go ahead and add a post to the usual batch of where I’ll be at NAB kind topics, not because I think I’m important enough to that it needs to be...

One of the first big announcements out of the NAB gate comes from Filmlight and it involves their Baselight product line. The overall news is an update to Baselight (taking it to version 4.3) and a new Blackboard 2 control surface.

Fnord Software has a new free plug-in, NaNny, that fixes over-bright pixels turned black in OpenEXR, TIFF, and other float files inside After Effects. Float space is a strange place, where bugs can result in NaN (Not a Number), inf (infinity), and negative pixel values that can wreck havoc with image processing. Pictured here is the sample EXR with a blur filter applied; without NaNny you just get the black block.

Magic Bullet LUT Buddy was designed for the professional colorist and bridges the gap from desktop applications to high end systems and hardware boxes. Use Magic Bullet LUT Buddy with apps like After Effects and FCP to output LUTs and communicate with higher end systems ranging from DaVinci Resolve to Panasonic displays. If you are already using 1D or 3D LUTs in your workflow, this tool was designed for you to share values between compliant software and devices.

Earlier today Chris Meyer noted a Adobe Technology Sneak Preview: Warp Stabilizer. Other teases like CS5 Evolves April 11th, 2011 have appeared on Adobe websites, but there’s no need to wait for a little more on this new technology, thanks to a tweet by Karl Soule.
