It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

Larry Jordan - who back in February was the first to report seeing a demo of the new version of Final Cut [NotesOnVideo: Final Cut Pro Update - confirmation] - has posted his thoughts on the news from the SuperMeet. He's actually puzzled why - assuming the rumors are true - Apple would do this. He argues that they are pissing off other vendors [well, Avid yes, Canon is probably fine about it, who knows about...

Rumors are flying that Apple will be using the Vegas Supermeet to announce the next version of Final Cut Pro. Supposedly, Apple will be taking over the entire event for their announcement, canceling all other sponsors, including AJA, Avid, Canon, BlackMagic, Autodesk and others, who were set to give presentations.

We are just a week away from the NAB 2011 SuperMeet. Have you gotten your tickets yet? We all know that there's (supposed to be) the raffle grand prize of a 30,000 dollar DaVinci Resolve system but there's other great prizes (maybe) like an AJA Io Express, an nVidia Quadro 4000 for Mac, lots of Blackmagic hardware and way more software than you can imagine.

As if keeping track of existing formats weren’t bad enough — do I shoot film or digital? 16 or 35? RED or Alexa or F35 or something else? — it looks like filmmakers’ options have multiplied again. At CinemaCon (the former ShoWest) last week, James Cameron made the latest pitch to exhibitors for shooting and exhibiting movies at faster frame rates than the 24 fps standard. The other shoe dropped yesterday, when word came out of New Zealand that cinematographer Andrew Lesnie is in fact sho...

As we mentioned earlier, we’re creating a video training series based on our popular beginner’s book After Effects Apprentice, which progresses from "I haven't used it before" through core skills including keyframing, masking, text animation, and 3D space to advanced techniques such as motion tracking, green screen, and expressions.

Adobe TV just posted a video giving a technology preview of a new feature for After Effects called the Warp Stabilizer. This is an effect which, once applied to footage, automatically analyzes it, internally assigns a "cloud" of tracking points, and uses this information to smooth out camera motion (including both positional movement and rotation) that was in the shot. Some form of auto-cropping or scaling was also insinuated but not fully explained. Another feature inside Warp...

There are very few products out there that I consider "must have’s". Automatic Duck’s Pro Import for After Effects is one, and Digieffects Buena Depth Cue 2 is another. Both solve problems that editors and/or motion graphic designers have had working with their NLE/compositing program. Well, there’s another product to add to the list, and I’m talking about Singular Software’s Plural Eyes, and if you’ve
