To The Aotg.com Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.

Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.

We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.

Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.

Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell
Aotg.com Founder

Clients don't understand Container Formats

Once again a client asked me for "an avi" of a video. Avi was introduced in 1992 or so by Microsoft and has really been a positive and exciting boon to the pirated movie industry ever since. Aside from that it continues to cause headaches for "video people" and fellow "creatives" like myself.

Is Apple Ceding the High-End Video Editing Market?

Steve Jobs e-mail reassurances notwithstanding, this is a question that's getting asked a lot in editing suites these days, especially those with large Final Cut Pro/Final Cut Studio installations. While users of other software; Adobe CS Suites including Premiere and After Effects, Avid's Media Composer, Sony Vegas and Square Box Systems CatDV just to name a few, get new features and powerful upgrades, Final Cut Pro editors are stuck waiting on the sidelines. The fact is Final Cut Pro hasn't...

WHO AM I? YOUR CREATIVE VISION.

Happy Christmas everyone. I’ve been distinctly absent from the pages of the blog over the Christmas period and I think that’s absolutely correct. Holidays are called holidays for a reason, no good moaning about having no time off because you were blogging or tweeting over the Christmas period! As creatives this period is particularly important because it’s that old thing of new year’s resolutions, recharging your batteries creatively, doing something different, catching up on movies etc.

Where I've Been

These days, Twitter updates are often easier and quicker to do than a fully formed blog post idea. And on the blogging front, I have been invited to write for ProVideo Coalition, which is a real honor. I am excited to join that group of writers. I'll be writing original content for PVC (as well as posting the "greatest hits" of PSP up there for good measure), and I'll continue to write here. There are some things you just can't say when you have sponsors.

It’s time for New Year’s resolutions. Hopefully one of yours will be to improve your editing efficiency. That can usually be accomplished by diving a little deeper to learn some of the tools that you might not use on a frequent basis. I’ll quickly cover a few highlights in Apple Final Cut Pro that might be useful to you.

Editing Source Footage W/ FX already Applied

Is there a simple way to add FX to your source footage and then use the source panel to select in and out point and add the affected footage to your timeline rather than adding the footage and having to apply the FX after the fact? Answer: Yes! This Premiere Pro quick tip video tutorial could save you a lot of time.

well i noticed a strange "mono-like" sound coming out of iTunes lately ... so today i did "investigate" it closely and discovered that this is really an issue that is yet to fix by Apple – even with the "recently " published update to version 10.1+ ...

These will include both essential tips for new users, as well as timesaving gems that experienced users may not be aware existed.
