To The Aotg.com Community,
It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

I can say without reservation that Avid Media Composer 5 is an upgrade that truly deserves the "Hot" rating from our product review ranking index. Media Composer has been one of the top nonlinear editors since the existence of NLEs. In fact, it pretty much jump-stared the whole NLE revolution. Version 5 contains a ton of new features (several quite earth-shattering, if you're a longtime Avid editor) that answered many previous customer requests and complaints.

Have you ever set a looooong render on one of your favorite post-production applications and watched as the render bar ticked away and the app tried to give you a best guess as to how long the render might take? De-interlacing in Apple Final Cut Pro

Though many producers now exclusively shoot in progressive mode, few producers don't have some interlaced footage that they need to work with, whether legacy DV or some HD format shot more recently in interlaced mode. When producing for TV or DVD, interlaced works just fine. But when producing for streaming, or for film-based output, de-interlacing is necessary to convert the interlaced fields into progressive frames.

After i posted my Cinec Best Of i got a "few" questions regarding to the ABC DSLR LIGHT JIB . Avid has quietly released some important improvements to the Smart Tool — features that go a long way toward making Trim and Segment modes function the way they did in Version 4. The updates are incorporated into recent "patch" releases, and therein lies a rub. Patch builds are designed to quickly solve specific customer problems, and they aren’t as fully tested as regular releases are. But I’ve been using version 5.0.3.1 for a month now, and I wouldn’t want to go back.
Autodesk: Smoke on the Mac

Autodesk announced towards the end of the 2009 that Smoke, its video editing, 3D and finishing effects software, was to work on the Mac platform. The tool harnesses the 64-bit power of Snow Leopard, according to Autodesk, and will integrate into existing Mac-based workflows using Final Cut Pro and Avid Media Composer.
