It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

In this article, I’m going to get in and scratch the surface of RED’s new IPP2 workflow. The first thing that’s important to understand, especially if you’re new to RED’s cameras, is what exactly does IPP stand for? IPP is RED’s Image Processing Pipeline, which will help guide you and your image from when it hits the sensor, to when you see the final product on screen. What RED is doing with the move to IPP2 is to separate the technical process from the creative process, as well as i...

Spinning disk (HDD) and flash storage (SSD) drives are nearly the same cost these days, so it’s no surprise that many shooters, filmmakers, and content creators are turning to SSDs for long-term storage of critical media files. Like human beings, our drives require some amount of exercise to maintain good health; both traditional HDDs and […] The post Your SSDs Need a Workout from Time to Time — Like Any Other Drive appeared first on Studio Daily.

http://alex4d.com/notes/item/interoprable-master-f...
Interoprable Master Format is a system that allows you to specify all the versions of a feature film using a set of rules. Instead of rendering out every combination of language, aspect ratio, certification, distributor standard, you define how their rules apply to your movie. When a specific version is called for, it can then be rendered out automatically based on the media and the specific timeline included in an IMP (Interoperable Mastering Package). Even if you don't work in high-end ...
