To The Aotg.com Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.

Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.

We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.

Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.

Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

In this in-depth A Sound Effect interview, supervising sound editors Peter Brown and Joe Dzuban take you behind the scenes on their sound work for the film - covering everything from creatively crafting powerful water sounds, creating Trident hits, ‘laser’ guns, and gigantic deep-sea battle sounds, to the challenges of designing (intelligible) underwater vocals:

The question never fails to pop up in the weeks before the Oscars, perhaps the most high-profile event at which the craftspeople are honored. So to put the matter to rest, we chatted earlier this month with the teams behind a few films that received nominations in the sound categories: “A Quiet Place,” recognized for editing; “A Star Is Born,” recognized for mixing; and “First Man,” recognized for both.

One of the most anticipated films at the 2019 Sundance Film Festival (according to Indiewire and MTV, among others), Honey Boy is a semi-autobiographical story penned by actor Shia LaBeouf that spans a decade in the life of a child actor. It’s also the first feature film cut by editor Mónica Salazar, a Mexican immigrant whose story starts with a VCR in Monterrey and a dream to one day land at Pixar.

Goro is a friend of mine and he’s an amazing artist! I’m sure you’ve heard of him. One of the things that I find inspiring about Goro is that he does his art every single day. The first time we met, he was doing a talk on a daily ritual of speed painting. I wanted to pick up a pen and start drawing myself. The more I got to know Goro, the more inspiring he’s become. He has so much insight about his art and Virtual Reality.

If you were asked to name Steven Spielberg‘s tensest sequence, what would it be? Saving Private Ryan‘s barnstorming opening? Raptors stalking Lex and Tim through the kitchen in Jurassic Park? Or Jaws‘ thrilling climax? All, of course, are astounding works, but one that isn’t mentioned nearly enough is the masterful basement sequence that occurs towards the end of War of the Worlds.
