To The Aotg.com Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.

Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.

We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.

Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.

Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell
Aotg.com Founder

A few months ago I edited a story that had some problems. Apparently the gain was turned up pretty high by accident on the camera.

Simple Whip Pan

This is a little whip pan effect I use quite often that I find it often better looking than those provided in some plugin packages, and it can be built entirely with Avid native effects.

Now that the agenda is up for the Supermeet next Tuesday at the RIO, I can’t help wonder if the Supermeet team haven’t accidentally revealed part of Avid’s announcements?

In this episode, we’ll severely change the white balance of an image to correct an underexposed, wrongly balanced clip and make it look decent. We’ll use the curves in Avid’s Color Correction to do it.

Editing on Avid in the Cloud

Over 20 years ago Avid began with a shift away from linear purpose-built hardware by harnessing the power of non-linear software, running (eventually, as they increased in power) on commodity workstations. Today, the network--extending beyond the local network to the internet--is the platform ready to be harnessed.

In the Studio: Working With SVP 9 and AVCHD

A recent email blast for a new Sony camcorder loudly proclaims: "A new year. A new format." It sometimes feels that way, doesn't it? For prosumer video camera codecs, the current "belle of the ball" is AVCHD (Advanced Video Codec High Definition) in all its many flavors.

Wanna know how to make your audio sound like it is coming from a telephone, or a cheap radio? Well, I did too. I googled it, and after a few hits I came across a great solution for this.

Post and Spring Pt. 1

It is such an exciting time to be working in post. Even though it's getting harder and harder to say "post" in isolation. So many of my fellow artist-geeks are combining their loves into one big super-colossal package of art::tech symbiosis!
