It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

When fxguide was established there were two mainstays of our industry in Australia, as there were in many other countries. Broadcast and post-production were the cornerstones of our industry. At NAB these were the two camps that brought major equipment and employed the most staff. In Sydney there were three major post houses and three big commercial TV networks.

MONTREAL -- Rodeo FX completed nearly 200 visual effects shots for The Legend of Tarzan, including action sequences with CG hippos and crocodiles, where realistic water interaction was critical for the success of the shots. The studio’s VFX work helped lift these animal sequences to a level where they look like scenes from a nature documentary. This is the first major production on which Rodeo FX has created CG creatures, adding to its repertoire of VFX skills.

Though these elements technically apply to virtually all films, the horror genre (as well as thrillers, sci-fi, etc.) tends to take everything up a notch when it comes to sound. So, let's take a look at several concepts talked about in the video that you should pay special attention to when designing the sound for a horror film.

odzilla has been gracing our screens for more than 60 years. We’ve watched the monster ravage whole cities and fight some memorable adversaries over the years, and thanks to the franchise’s long run, we’ve also seen in these films the progression of cinema history.

One of the most groundbreaking and mind-blowing presentations to come out of Adobe Video World was the new Character Animator demonstration. By tracking movements on your face, this new application can simulate a live animated figure mimicking your facial expressions and head movements. However, in recent months, the focus of the platform has shifted in a much more revolutionary direction.

CineMontage Magazine (the journal of the union representing Motion Picture Editors) published interviews with the TV editors who worked on the original seasons on the NBC show The Apprentice (2004-07) reported that the image of its star, Donald Trump, was carefully crafted and manufactured in post-production to feature a persona of success, leadership and glamour, despite the raw footage of the reality star that was often “a disaster.”

Planning is just as important to filmmaking as the camera itself, and one way you can be prepared, especially for those chaotic days on set, is by storyboarding. This process helps the director, DP, and other departments pre-visualize what shots and scenes are going to look like before they shoot them. It can be a bit difficult to know where to start if you've never done it, but this infographic by Jugaad Animation helps walk you through it step by step, explaining key components, as well as wha...
