It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

Guest post by James Richter In 2007, I was invited to join Mutineer Theatre Company in Los Angeles, a new enterprise one of my colleagues was founding. Though I hadn’t participated in theater since high school, I jumped at the chance. I wasn’t getting many opportunities to use my composition training in film, and I was […]

As the year continues, many of these posts will be philosophical in nature. Some will be in contradiction to previous postings. These are not intended as truths or assertions, they’re merely thoughts…ideas. Think of this as stream of consciousness over a wide span… As I wrap up this live action VR/360 short I’ve been working […]

We’re kicking off this month of “Sound for Live Theater” with a very special interview with Nevin Steinberg who was kind enough to answer some of our questions about the world of sound for theater, and also some specific questions regarding his work as the Sound Designer for the musical “Hamilton” by Lin-Manuel Miranda. “Stand-by SQ 01, monthly theme… monthly theme Go!” Ok, so this month we’re going to be taking a look at the world of sound for live theater. This is the world where many argue the term “Sound Designer” found its first use. A world where multi-channel discreet sound systems going into the hundreds of speakers could be found […]

Picture by gratisography In regards to this month about “failure”, I wanted to bend the subject a bit by talking not about human failure but handling failure as part of an audio designer job for a video game. For this, I decided to ask people who worked on games where character failure is prominent or […]
