It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

Max Easton thought he was out. A former British intelligence operative, Easton was living in another part of the world, in a beautiful house, with a beautiful wife. But how did he get there? In FOX’s new espionage drama Deep State, he gets pulled back in. Allegiances are murky, information is unreliable, relationships are a lie and nothing is black and white — except the opening title sequence. Created by London-based studio MMMultiply, the opening sequence sets up the themes, mood, a...

A few years ago, you needed an expensive OB van to cover a live event, even for editing and transmission later. This can now be accomplished on a table top and of course Final Cut Pro's speed helps make it the obvious choice of NLE to get inserts edited for playout. Florian Decker shares his FCPX/K2 workflow on the Globus Marathon in St. Wendel, Germany.

BlacKkKlansman, the newest Spike Lee joint, is one of those movies with a plotline that might seem implausible if it weren’t largely based on a true story. It’s about Ron Stallworth (played in the film by John David Washington), an African-American police officer in Colorado Springs who infiltrated the Ku Klux Klan (KKK) in the 1970s. July was a good month for Apple power users, with the simultaneous release of Blackmagic Design’s eGPU and a refresh of Apple’s popular MacBook Pro line, including both 13″ and 15″ models. Although these new laptops retain the previous model’s form factor, they gained a bump-up in processors, RAM, and storage capacity. Apple loaned me […]

How often have you been working in Adobe Premiere Pro and you duplicated a sequence into a new version only to forget to load that new copy into the timeline? So you continue editing on your old version only to discover the mistake many cuts later?

The Wizard of Oz, even at 79 years old, somehow seems real and important in a way most films don’t. A big part of this probably has to do with many of us coming to Oz as kids, susceptible and porous to content that speaks the language of archetype and rings with myth.
