It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

Time based effects can sound great “filling in the gaps” between notes but the more you use, the mushier and more distant things sound. You can of course automate them but effects like the AIR Dynamic Delay offer a different way to keep the effect out of the way while letting it come up in level to fill those gaps.

You probably have a sense that there are a lot of royalty-free sound effects and clips out there if you just knew where to find them. After all, there are so many generic sounds that can bring a movie to life that there’s no reason you should have to pay a fortune to make your movie sound great.

Sad music is one of the most dependable tools available to film and video creators. Songs rich with mournful minor keys and deliberate downtempo stillness (like those found in the curated playlist at the bottom of this post) convey raw emotions and bleak existential experiences in ways that language images alone can’t.

By Jennifer Walden HBO’s award-winning series Deadwood might have aired its final episode 13 years ago, but it’s recently found new life as a movie. Set in 1889 — a decade after the series finale — Deadwood: The Movie picks up the threads of many of the main characters’ stories and weaves them together as the town of Deadwood celebrates the statehood of South Dakota. Pete Lee is not new to working in the rugged wild. Adventure is second nature to him. A look at his resume shows the challenges he’s used to — Sound Supervisor on Special Forces: Ultimate Hell Week, Sound Recordist on Trailblazers TV Series, Sound on Man Vs. Wild Series and the list goes on. So when he was called on to scale the world’s highest free-standing mountain, while providing sound, Pete was in.
