It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

In this intermediate Premiere Pro CS5.5 tutorial, I show you how to take elements from After Effects and use them to create an interesting slot machine animation using Premiere Pro's native filters, motion parameters and Title Tool. Download the Slot Machine Toolkit below if you want to follow along. I discuss a website where to download a project management script for free as well as a change in the way the tutorials will be done. Watch, learn, subscribe and enjoy!

Another great film edited by the talented Josh Bodnar. This film is different as you get to interact with the film through the social network, this is part one of eight. Great edit Josh! Here is the breakdown sent to me by Josh: Directed by D.J. Caruso ( Disturbia, I am Number Four, Eagle Eye) alongside Oscar-winning cinematographer Mauro...

Match Action You see match action all the time. Movies, television shows, even commercials contain match action. Take this Heineken commercial for example At [:13] you see match action of the guy in pink juggling the beer in glasses. At [:18] is a match action shot of a guy throwing beer bottles from the stage...

It's time to dust off the blog as much has happened since I last left off. Heart of Now has had a nice festival run, playing 8 festivals including its World Premiere at the amazing Dead Center Film Festival. And as soon as the ink dries, I can officially announce the film's impending distribution deal, so stay tuned.

Michael Bay knows what he wants from a Transformers movie: big effects, beautiful women, and a cocky kid who knows how to talk to giant robots. Working on that movie means getting into a Michael Bay frame of mind, understanding how all the disparate parts of the project are, over time, coming together in a two-and-a-half-hour burst of highly choreographed and very expensive metal mayhem.

When it comes to documentary construction, one of the first steps, from my understanding anyway, is research and that step gets repeated time and time again and the story develops. I've been working on a particular documentary on and off for a few years now and it still returns to the research stage. Filmmakers can...

I was going to school and working in a restaurant when I met my former husband––a successful businessman whom I knew through my job. Troubled hearts can be drawn together and we were both on the rebound personally. Our issues drew us together like magnets (my self-esteem and his love to stay out and party).
