It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

When the Visual Effects Society gathers Feb. 12 for its 12th annual VES Awards, Alfonso Cuaron can expect to spend a lot of time at the winner's podium. Gravity leads in the feature film competition with eight nominations, and the director is set to receive the group's Visionary Award.

For those worried that director Darren Aronofsky taking on a big studio film like Noah would result in a whitewashed version of the filmmaker's vision, we have some good news. A report from THR (via The Playlist) extensively covers the making of the film, and while Aronofsky reveals that Paramount Pictures initially tried several of their own cuts of the Biblical epic with an eye towards pleasing a Christian audience, they weren't better than his own early, rough cuts. The result was Paramount f...

Before the digital age, films were manually cut and pasted together from their actual celluloid strips by old men and women the industry who would do it for next to nothing (and even for free, if the film was about children visiting their grandparents). So your meemaw’s not going senile when she talks about Danny Glover: she may have actually worked on Predator 2.

This is definitely the most bracing score on the list. The Tom Hanks-starring wobbly-camera tension-thriller is an incredibly visceral film, and Jackman's music is a percussion-heavy bolster to the action. In the grand scheme of movie composers, he's in the infancy of his career and on the same path as so many before him - apprenticed under Hans Zimmer, assisting on notable blockbusters (Pirates of the Carribbean, The Dark Knight… err… Kung Fu Panda…) and now he's increasingly being given ...

Walt Disney Animation Studios is on a roll that began with 2010's Tangled and continued with 2012's Wreck-It Ralph. And now with Frozen -- the $150 million movie has grossed $914 million worldwide -- Disney's re-energized animation unit is even overshadowing its corporate sibling at Pixar. Andrew Millstein, 53, who oversees day-to-day operations of the 800-person animation unit, credits the changes that Pixar chiefs John Lasseter and Ed Catmull put in place when they took on the additional title...
