It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

Want to get that big city radio announcer sound on your own voice. Professional radio stations often use Optimod compressors and multiple studio processors to achieve this huge sound. You can create a similar effect right inside Adobe Audition.

It's easy to create a voice that sounds similar to that of Stephen Hawking. All you need to do is use the Generate Speech option in Adobe Audition CC and then slightly modulate that result to create a Stephen Hawking style computer generated voice over.

In this video for Pro Tools Expert, Technical Editor James Ivey takes a look at the new V13 multi pattern valve condenser microphone from Vanguard Audio Labs. This is not only a beautiful looking mic but it also has the sound characteristics of some of the worlds most famous and expensive mics making it one that you really should thing about when buying a modern microphone. Take a listen as James talks about the mic and then creates a track using only the V13 and a single mic preamp.

It’s amazing how one simple compressor can do two wildly different things to your audio – all depending upon how you set the Attack and Release knobs.

I’d seen none of the Marvel movies outside the Iron Man trilogy and wasn’t planning to dive into the MCU with Dr. Strange. But positive early responses piqued my interest, and then I got a curious invitation to a screening preceded by a technical demonstration of the Dolby Atmos sound system.

Adobe has demonstrated tech that lets you edit recorded speech so that you can alter what that person said or create an entirely new sentence from their voice. It seems inevitable that it will eventually be referred to as "photoshop but for audio."
