To The Aotg.com Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.

Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.

We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.

Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.

Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

Today’s blog entry is inspired by Kylee Wall and a comment she made on twitter that sparked an entire tweetfest debate. It goes something like this: @kyl33t: Dragon Tattoo is still the best cut teaser trailer ever.

At last, a diligent soul, one John Buck, has had the passion and taken the time to trace the track of editing from its manual scissors and glue past to its electronic mouse and keyboard present. An Australian editor, Buck writes up the recent fast track decades of technological advances as well as the build-up [...]

I’m a total sucker for animated films, and in my personal opinion, Pixar has some of the best that were made in the past decade. Editing animation is an art unto itself. Have a watch below: Leave your suggestions in the comment section below for general scene topics, as well as next time’s topic: Animated [...]

Comedy is about timing. As an editor, pacing performances and cutting at the most opportune moments can hone the hilarity even further—if you know what to look for.

Editor Jay Cassidy Talks Silver Linings Playbook

While rom-coms seldom win Best Picture, there's something about the eccentric charm, naked truth, and refreshing unpredictability about "Silver Linings Playbook" that makes it worthy of consideration. And while it might not rise to the level of "The Apartment" or "Annie Hall," director David O. Russell arguably delivers the best rom-com in quite some time. Besides, how can you resist what he terms "Goodfellas" meets "It's a Wonderful Life"?

What is exciting about this moment in time for media is that no one knows quite where it is going. New catchphrases like "Transmedia" litter the landscape as people and companies fumble around attempting to define exactly what it is that we are currently experiencing. It is quite like the early days of cinema, we...
