It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

Active. Reactive. Interactive. Hyperactive? How do we approach making sounds for things that make sounds when things happen? What are the considerations and affordances necessary obscure the strings enough to make the sonic marionette believable and delightful? What really defines interactivity? This month, we’ll look at many lenses we use to view sound for interactive media, and highlight […]

Baptiste Chatel’s workstation in Rennes (France) This article is a guest post by Baptiste Chatel (Dijon, France) who “works virtually everywhere in Europe as musician and sound engineer” and “likes loud sounds, or sounds in low or high register”. Mixers either swear by outboard analog summing amps or don’t see the need for them at all, but the ones that do are very passionate about them. We’re now into the second generation of summing amps, and the latest ones are incorporating a lot of features that the the first gen didn’t have. That’s one of the reasons why the new A-Designs Mix Factory is so cool; it has a lot of great features. But the other reason is more important – its concept was actually developed by a mixer.

As the year continues, many of these posts will be philosophical in nature. Some will be in contradiction to previous postings. These are not intended as truths or assertions, they’re merely thoughts…ideas. Think of this as stream of consciousness over a wide span… It’s funny the way sounds can trigger memories. There’s a storm moving […]

So he recorded a short clip, sent it over to me, and in this episode I have my first two suggestions for him on how to reduce the reverb in his room when recording and how to remove mouth clicks using Adobe Audition. The next step is for him to apply these things and we’ll see where we end up. Maybe there’s even more we can do in Audition to make his sound even better.

Why do all vocals today sound the same. Over absorbed rooms produce dull and lifeless vocals. If you absorb some and diffuse some, you will achieve a vocal presentation that has more "air", separation, and definition.

The inspiration behind Dalton’s winning track Bouncing is the struggle he’s experiencing as an aspiring artist. “I don't have a lot of money right now and I’m trying as hard as I can to get to where I want to be,” he says. “I feel like I’m working hard and still barely making rent; trying to be successful doing something that I really love.”
