To The Aotg.com Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.

Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.

We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.

Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.

Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell
Aotg.com Founder

FCPX: Hardware changes - PART Two

July 11, 2011, 08:59 PM

http://library.creativecow.net/adcock_gary/FCPX-2/...

We knew that Gary Adcock was the perfect person to deal with an app that aspires to meet the needs of the hardest-core, highest-end pros. Or does it? What if Apple told you that Final Cut Pro X wasn't meant for you? Gary goes beyond his own knee-jerk reaction to the release to get under the hood of FCPX, and he likes a lot of what he sees. In part 2 of his series, he looks at changes to how FCPX deals with hardware, processing, and the underlying structure you don't see.

Of Apples and Avids: The Cautionary Tale of FCP X

http://www.postmagazine.com/Post-Blog/2011/July/Of...

Even as I write, this unprecedented (in our industry) drama is still unfolding. Not since the "New Coke" debacle of 1985 has one company raised so much furor and alienated so many with a product change. But the situation with Final Cut Pro X is not a simple case of a flavor gone wrong...as one blogger pointed out, these are people's livelihoods one company has decided to play with.

A few posts ago I described a keyboard sequence that prevented an edit automatically having audio crossfade applied. Some editors require the reverse – a quick way of applying an audio crossfade without applying any video transition.

Apple Final Cut Pro X

http://digitalfilms.wordpress.com/2011/07/11/apple...

Apple Final Cut Pro had been rocking along for twelve years, gaining professional market share and becoming a versatile platform for many editors, facilities and developers. But it was time for a change, especially after the 2009 update, which many editors felt was too incremental.

FCP X cannot (yet) do 24 at 25 film editing

This is to clarify FCP X's capability, or lack thereof, of some workflows being used in some parts of the world. Specifically India.FCP X is not currently capable of doing a feature edit in the 24 at 25 method with an EDL or cut list as the final output.

Final Cut Pro X Review

Apple calls it a "major breakthrough in video editing". Editors have said "it's not ready for professional use." In the Mac App Store, most users have given it a one-star rating. But, here is my review of this application called Final Cut Pro X. To get to the actual review, jump down a couple paragraphs...
