To The Aotg.com Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.

Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.

We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.

Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.

Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell
Aotg.com Founder

Gotta Hand It To The Kid

Whew! Now that was lots-o-editing! Worked on the show all Thursday and Friday, and have 4 segments completed and approved by the rep (still waiting on client approval) and almost done with the 5th and have a start on the 6th... when it's all said and done, there's 12 segments in addition to the 3:00 open, the open montage, close and bumpers. I'm enjoying it, though, as I love to edit and thus far, things have been coming together quite well with few technical set backs.

COMBINING MULTIPLE EXPOSURES: DYNAMIC RANGE TRICKS

A while back I came across an image on the RED user forum which was a grab from an HDRx clip. The pic showed something pretty incredible, a shady barn and a very bright, sunlit exterior, seen through a door and both were exposed, if not perfectly, at least well enough so that you could ...

Moving From Tab to Tab in Final Cut Pro

A great addition to your Final Cut Pro workflow is to start using a keyboard shortcut to move from one tab to another. I recently added this to my workflow, and can't believe how often I use it. Becoming efficient at Final Cut Pro is all about little time savers like this one.

Avid Screencast #49: Sports Trailer Look

December 2, 2010, 03:40 PM

This week, another viewer suggestion: We’ll create the high-contrast, saturated look that is common to many sports trailers. We’ll also play around with BCC’s Glow and add some flicker to the shots.

All's Well That Ends Well

I normally carpool with my wife as she works only a couple blocks away from the ranch, and at about the same time. I can be flexible enough to sync my hours with hers. This basically just keeps me here an extra half hour, but that's not necessarily a bad thing as it's a little time window to tie up loose ends. This morning she asked me what was on my agenda for today, to which I replied lots of show editing.

Virtues of Gamma

Hello everyone, I'm back from a nice 4 day break. I now have 2 show segments finished as I just completed the second one this morning including color correcting which has become a standard part of the editing process. Personally, I find myself using the gamma control a lot. I usually end up with a ...

5 Questions: The Brothers Strause

Colin and Greg Strause came to Hollywood to become visual effects artists. They did that — they’ve contributed VFX to a long list of movies including The Book of Eli, Avatar, 2012 and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. They founded their own visual effects house, Hydraulx, in Santa Monica. And, in 2007, they directed AVPR: Alien vs. Predator — Requiem. The directing bug took; the brothers most recently directed and produced Skyline and have more projects on the way.

Black Friday Deals for Filmmakers

http://nofilmschool.com/2010/11/black-friday-deals...

For those of you in America, happy Thanksgiving/Black Friday. In the spirit of retailers slashing prices to engender consumer stampedes, I went searching for Black Friday deals specific to filmmakers. I discovered, however, that most pro camera stores don’t participate in such an event, which is apparently constrained to the consumer world. So instead, here are some deals that might apply to filmmakers, at least on the low end (for example, you won’t see someone like RED slashing prices on a...
